Huddled against the shade of the tree,
Holding a rifle to kill and to destroy
The voices of men the anger of the guns,
Rattled the battlefield,
A war on the loose,
Finally content with blood he regrets,
He keeps blaming himself for the lives that were lost,
A nameless battle their spirits were dragged,
Having seen all the red, their eyes were sore,
Of the hurt of the wounds that ached on more,
He’s been burden the blame, trapped in the war for too long,
Missing the woman in his life,
Only a picture could comfort the cold endless night,
He could hear the cries of his friends in battle,
Instantly the whole sky burned with fury,
In thousands, they dropped like flies to the ground,
As he stood and watched the rain drops of blood,
There came a time when he could watch the murder no more,
He raced in front screaming the enemies’ name,
Trying to fight a battle long lost,
But the only thing, that he had in mind,
Was her face, her smile?
If he might see her again,
The bullets flared out in the fogy night air,
Piercing through his leg, crushing him down,
A tear drop of blood flowed down his cheek,
A stain that would seal right into his soul,
Finally…
Hi sits on the porch on a chair on wheels,
Watching the kids play soldier on the yard,
He blames the fact the war created to lose life,
Now it’s just a pain that doesn’t go away,
A broken leg, a ear without sound,
And an eye that sees no more of the world,
Or the smile of his love,
He dealt with his ghosts and faced all his demons,
Finally content with the past he regrets,
Maybe forgiveness will find him some way down this unknown road,
Only the touch of her hand,
He has left…
He never dreamed life would end up this way,
And all he can see are the years passing by
And he made up his mind that those days are gone,
Leaving behind the guilt, the sorrow…
Only the love can remain with in him now…
